What's a content management system (CMS)?
A content management system is software that keeps track of every piece of content on your Web site, much like your local public library keeps track of books and stores them. Content can be simple text, photos, music, video, documents, or just about anything you can think of. A major advantage of using a CMS is that it requires almost no technical skill or knowledge to manage. Since the CMS manages all your content, you don't have to.
What is Joomla?
Joomla is an award-winning content management system (CMS), which enables you to build Web sites and powerful online applications. Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and extensibility, have made Joomla the most popular Web site software available. Best of all, Joomla is an open source solution that is freely available to everyone.
Joomla is the most popular open source CMS currently available as evidenced by a vibrant and growing community of friendly users and talented developers. Joomla's roots go back to 2000 and, with over 200,000 community users and contributors, the future looks bright for the award-winning Joomla Project.
Interwave did an exhaustive review of the three major Content Management Solutions: WordPress, Drupal and Joomla. What we discovered was that while WordPress is extremely popular, it's primarily designed as a "blogging" solution and therefore it's functionality is a bit limited. Drupal is designed from a programmers perspective and appeared extremely complex with a big learning curve. Joomla proved to be very robust, extremely well supported and other than the initial setup extremely easy to manage with a very moderate learning curve.
We have tried to minimize this learning curve by providing valuable resources (see right column of screen shot above) and also by installing several add-ons (extensions) that give Joomla a familiar editing interface...so if you know how to use Microsoft Word, you can use Joomla!
By developing our Signature Website solutions on this CMS platform we are able to guarantee you that you'll never have to rebuild your site from scratch ever again. Adding or removing specific functionality is a snap, changing the site look can be done with a couple of clicks, and if you decide to completely redesign your site design, installing additional templates can be done without having to re-input existing content. The best part, because your site is based on an Open Source solution you have options...yes, if you ever feel that Interwave Concepts is not servicing you satisfactorily, you can backup and move your site to any number of other hosting services that support Joomla!* We have remained in business since 1995 because we put the customer first.
* - Signature Data Feed extension requires hosting with Interwave Concepts. Some extensions may require additional licenses if not hosted with Interwave Concepts.
